Obesity's Social Costs
We all know that obesity places a significant burden on our physical health.
However, it causes problems for the mind as well, especially where children are concerned. A study found that obese children are more likely to be ostracized by and isolated from their peers, and are at increased risk of depression.
Worst of all, as a child’s obesity level increases, his or her social and emotional health worsens.
Experts suggest that intervention and prevention efforts should begin early and target peer relationships.
